This vintage piece is a quintessential example of Nahavand craftsmanship, a village in the Hamadan province renowned for producing some of the most lustrous and durable rugs in Persia. The aesthetic is defined by its high-contrast palette and sophisticated "village" weave, a blend of tribal geometry and refined floral elements.

The design anchors the eye with a prominent, lobed central medallion in varying shades of madder red and terracotta, resting on a field of deep midnight indigo. This inky blue background is characteristic of the region and serves to make the surrounding motifs pop. Upon closer inspection, you will notice the field is populated with stylized floral sprays, which adds a layer of elegance to the rugged structure. The corner spandrels in soft ivory provide a distinct brightness that balances the moody richness of the center.

  • Origin: Nahavand, Hamadan, Persia
  • Materials: Hand-knotted wool pile on cotton foundation
  • Age: Late 20th century
  • Size: 3' x 5' 8" (92 x 172 cm)
  • Vegetable-dyed

Constructed with a hand-knotted wool pile on a sturdy cotton foundation, this rug features the signature glossy, high-quality wool that Nahavand is famous for. The vegetable dyes have settled beautifully, offering a depth of color that synthetic dyes simply cannot mimic.

Due to its robust construction and forgiving color palette, this rug is an excellent candidate for high-traffic areas. The 3' x 5' 8" size is particularly versatile; it is perfectly scaled for a front entryway, a kitchen runner, or placed beside a bed to add warmth and texture to a bedroom.
