Strictly speaking, a classic Shikargah (hunting‑ground) carpet shows riders in hot pursuit of deer or wild cats—but Tabriz weavers sometimes produced a gentler, “non‑hunting” variant that keeps the lush forest ecosystem while omitting the hunters. That’s exactly what we have here: a peaceful menagerie on a pomegranate‑red field, animated by peacock‑teal, pistachio, apricot and midnight navy accents.
Two plane trees rise from a celestial‑aqua spring, their branches alive with nightingales, peacocks and delicate blossoms, while deer graze and fish glide below. The scene feels more like a Persian Eden than a battleground, yet the design vocabulary—paired animals, vertical tree trunks, tiered composition—firmly roots it in the Shikargah tradition.
Because of its jewel‑box scale and narrative detail, I love this piece at the end of a bed, in a foyer, or even framed on the wall. The naturally dyed, 10 mm pile is deep and inviting, and under warm lamplight those saturated colours absolutely sing.
