Formerly known as the "Siberian tiger", the feline has not been seen in this region of the globe for many years. There are less than 500 Amur tigers left in the wild.

It is severely threatened with extinction; in addition to being hunted for its fur, many of its body parts are used in the manufacture of products used in traditional Asian medicine.
